Sanjay Dutt is not a reel hero, but a real hero for me: T P Aggarwal

It was an emotional day yesterday for the makers and the cast and crew of Star Entertainment Worldwide Pvt. Ltd. when they uncovered the first look of their upcoming Sanjay Dutt-starrer Policegiri at a multiplex in Mumbai in the absence of their dear star. Congress MP and Dutt's sister Priya Dutt graced the occasion along with his brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav among many of his friends. Exclaimed Priya, "As T P Aggarwal said the film is special for them and Sanjay, I wish success and good luck to it." Talks that Dutt's wife Manyata would also step in to promote the film lost weight when she did not turn up for the event. Incidentally, Dutt had completed the shooting of Policegiri a few days before he was to surrender himself for three-and-a-half year sentence in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case. Policegiri, a remake of 2003 Tamil hit 'Saamy', is directed by KS Ravi Kumar. The film is the story of Rudra (Sanjay Dutt)-a tough and charismatic Deputy Commissioner of Police of a small town called Amalapur in Hyderabad. His mission statement is to clean up the city of the scum of the earth and make sure that the public lives in peace and without fear. Seeing his macho looks, brave heart and honest nature, Sehar (Prachi Desai) an unconventional beauty falls in love with him. Unknown to Sehar, Rudra adopts an unconventional but effective policy of dealing with the local mafia, to achieve his mission of serving the public. His journey is bound to take viewers through very high-pitched drama and action packed roller coaster ride when he encounters interesting characters like Nagori (Prakash Raj). What will Sehar do when she realizes Rudra’s unique and unorthodox methods of ridding the society from gunda raj, forms the crux of the story. When we asked for a comment from producer T P Aggarwal, he said, “For many, Sanjay Dutt may be just another boy with a silver spoon born to a yesteryear Bollywood couple. He may be a legendary actor, a man with a gun, or a troubled somebody, for many others. But for me, he is a committed hero par excellence.” Policegiri went on the floors last year and was nearing completion when Dutt was convicted under the Arms Act. The actor gave a press statement, broke down and still rushed to the sets of Policegiri to complete the final schedule of the film. “In the past two months, he has seen life in its toughest form and has not cracked under the pressure. He has risen against all odds. Dutt is not a reel hero, but a real hero for me,” ended Aggarwal.
