Tellychakkar got in touch with the actress where she talked about her first show, her crush and much more.

Share with us your memory from the first show?

It was a telefilm in Lucknow, 1991 called ‘Vigyan Gaon Ki Aur’.

Who was your first crush?

Way back in school, there was a boy who followed me for 2 and a half years and I did not speak to him out of fear that my father would see him with me and bash him.

Tell us about the time when you just began your career in the industry?

I did a show called ‘Neem Ka Ped’ where I met Arun Bali and S.M. Zaheer for the first time. The scene was such that we were three girls and we had to take a tray full of dry fruits. So they rejected 2 of the girls and then they didn’t even try me. S.M.Zaheer sir was there and he suggested they try me for the scene too. So I did the scene and after that, Zaheer sir took some almonds out of the tray and gave it to me to eat.

Who’s the co-star that’s still in touch with you and is still a friend?

A lot of them. In Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, when Smriti was pregnant, she used to be in pain and I used to look at her stomach and say “Hey naughty child, why are you troubling her? Come out fast”. Later, when we went to Smriti’s house, Zohr was there, her son. The first thing he told me was “bye”. We all laughed at it. Smriti understood my need to do a different character. In ‘Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan’, she gave me a character that was similar to me.

Tell us about the time when you did a project only for the sake of doing it?

‘Kasamh Se’ where I had to replace Ashwini Kalsekar because she was not keeping well. At that time, my voice was very thin and I was made to talk in a bass voice that was Ashwini’s. I couldn’t do it ultimately and gave up. I told them that I wasn’t there for mimicry, so let me do things my way.

Thankfully, Ashwini came back later on.

Share a memory of the time when you heard a rumour about yourself?

In 1995, I had come to Mumbai to shoot and then I went to Delhi, then Lucknow. I think I was travelling by train. My lower back was paining to a point where after reaching home, I fell unconscious. Later, I was hospitalized and I had a urinary tract infection. At that time, a lot of people in Lucknow were talking that I have got my abortion done. When I got to know about it, I wondered why people think so much and where do they get so much time to think about.

It is so easy for people to think something negative about a person.

Tell us about the time when you saw yourself on a big hoarding for the first time.

That was recently at the time of Haraa Sindoor. I saw myself on very hoardings and it was just me, nobody else on the poster.

My nieces were so happy that we partied at that time. The females in my contemporary group were also happy as they were getting to know that actors like them will also be treated in a good way and that treatment won’t be just for the celebrities.
