MUMBAI: Aahana Kumra has impressed one and all with her performance in movies and web series. In 2022, she was seen in movies and web series like India Lockdown, Salaam Venky, Call My Agent: Bollywood, and Avrodh Season 2.
TellyChakkar recently did a round table and Aahana was one of the guests on it, and we spoke to her about how the year 2022 was for her, playing multi-layered characters in web series and more…
When asked to sum up the year 2022, Aahana said, “2022 has been a little bit of a confusing year for me. I think a lot of understanding about what I don’t want to do has come into my thoughts and I think I am putting that into action. I have always been a very yes person. I remember, I did an interview, and the person sitting next to me said that she is very choosy about the work she does, and I was like I am not at all choosy. I told my parents that I want to do this (acting) and I did not earn almost 10 years of my life because I continued to do theatre and my parents supported me. But, I remember my father, he used to not question me, but there was always a thought that you will not be able to sustain yourself as an actor because in India unfortunately theatre does not pay your bills. You go anywhere in the world, theatre easily pays your bills, and you can sustain yourself as an actor. But, my first love has always been stage and today if I get an option I would rather do stage than a big film.
“So, 2022 has been a year where I have become aware of who I am, and I don’t want to jump on the bandwagon and I don’t want to take up every work, and I want to be careful about how I say no which has been so difficult for me as an individual. I take so much work, sometimes I literally do projects where I have two scenes because I am getting work and I am very grateful for that. So, for me the biggest accomplishment this year has been that I have moved into my first home and I could do that because I didn’t say no to any work. This year has inspired me and I want to continue this inspiration in the next year and I don’t want to jump into saying yes, although it has been paying my bills and I am very grateful and it’s made me who I am, but I want to be aware of certain things like I won’t do such work. As a female actor, the roles are very limited, so sometimes you feel like let’s just do it. But, I don’t want to just do it, I want to think about it before doing it,” she added.
When asked about playing multi-layered characters in web series, Aahana said, “It’s like reading a novel because you are leaving with a character longer, and it’s fun to watch as compared to a film in which in two hours you declared someone as a hero and villain. In web series, you don’t declare anyone as a hero or villain; you are living with a character. So, many times it has happened that I loved the character but it is a very grey character.”
Aahana has some interesting projects lined up, and we are sure her fans are looking forward to watching her in more movies and web series.
