Priyanka Chopra's dad passes away

Priyanka Chopra’s father Dr. Ashok Chopra, who had been honoured with Lord Buddha’s Tamkha Award for medical services rendered to people of Ladakh, breathed his last today (19 June 2013) at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. He was suffering from Cancer since 2008 and had undergone several surgeries. If sources are to be believed, Dr Chopra's health deteriorated in the last 24 hours. All in the Chopra clan including Priyanka, her mother Madhu and brother were beside him when he breathed his last. Though a medical professional, Dr Chopra was a keen music aficionado and had performed at many programmes in Delhi that went on to become a huge success. The doctor also had a philanthropic side as he performed in remote areas and even for jawans who serve our nation day in and out. Even during his A.F.M.C. days, the number of his singing admirers never decreased. As a matter of fact, they only multiplied. It was during his third year in M.B.B.S. when Chopra was invited to Mumbai by music director Usha Khanna to sing for her upcoming films. But because of his studies and his keenness to serve his countrymen, he rejected the offer. When he was well, Dr Chopra used to give several Ghazal and light music performances and was appreciated. It is said that Priyanka was always very close to her father. For all her important occasions, she's had her father beside her- right from her Miss World days to recent award ceremonies.
