MUMBAI: In 2021, a show titled Potluck started streaming on Sony LIV. The show revolved around a crazy family and it starred Kitu Gidwani, Jatin Sial, Cyrus Sahukar, Ira Dubey, Harman Singha, Saloni Khanna, Shikha Talsania, and Siddhant Karnick. Now, season 2 of the series is all set to premiere on the OTT platform soon.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Harman Singha and spoke to him about Potluck season 2, the pressure of giving a better performance, and more...

How excited or nervous are you for Potluck season 2?

For Potluck, 100 percent there’s excitement, there’s no nervousness because of the way the first season was received, and it was above and beyond our imagination and excitement. I feel there is a small and loyal audience for the show who have been asking us about season 2 and I am just very happy and very relieved that though there was a long gap, season 2 is now ready to premiere.

When season 1 of a show gets a good response, is there pressure as an actor to perform better for season 2 ?

Normally there is pressure, but for me there was a lot of freedom on the show. From the day Rajshree ma’am came on the director’s chair, I had performed a couple of things in the workshop which she liked, and in my mind there was a simple thing that I am performing for my director. If the director is enjoying what is happening in the frame then everything will work out. In season 2, I went with the same thought; of course there’s always a little stress because you don’t want to repeat what you did in season 1. But, at the same time, you have to keep the thing that was good about your character, so that’s a very tricky situation, and I think the writers and the makers of the show got it right; it made our jobs much easier. For me, when I go on the Potluck set, I am so excited there’s literally no nervousness. I have a lot of comedy scenes which I really enjoy doing. I haven’t done a role like this earlier, so this was very exciting for me.

What was your first reaction when you had read the script of Potluck season 1?

I have grown up on shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, then international shows like The Modern Family, so my reference points were them. I had thought that even if we reach 5-10 percent of what those shows were, it would be great; especially Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai which was an iconic show. It’s about the urban family; the issues were more relevant to where I come from. I have grown up in mostly Delhi and Mumbai, 80% of my life i’v been a city kid. So, I naturally attach myself a lot to that as to a rural story. So, that was for me the biggest thing that they are making an urban drama which has a lot of comedy, there’s no crying, no politics, and no murder. So, this was refreshing and someone was casting me in it, so it was a privilege. This character is like a happier version of the real Harman.

Potluck season 2 will premiere on 24th Feb 2023.
