MUMBAI : Actor Jay Thakkar has been winning the hearts of the fans over the time with his projects. We have seen the actor in Guturgu-India's 1st Silent Comedy Show on Sab Tv, Lagi Tujhse Lagan and Uttaran on Colors TV. He is best known for his work in Sony TV's "Ek Duje Ke Vaaste 2", OTT show 'Laakhon Mein Ek' on Amazon Prime, feature film Raam Setu and Balaji's Dream Girl. Currently, the actor is receiving all he love for his OTT show titled UP 65 on Jio Cinema.
In an exclusive interaction with TellyChakkar, actor Jay Thakkar spoke about types of characters he looks forward to play and also on his upcoming projects.
What types of characters do you look forward to?
“Since I have had my proper share of performing various comical roles for Sony Tv, Jio Cinema, Amazon Prime and the ads that I have been doing since childhood, I look forward to portraying roles in serious and psychological thrillers. I am a method actor. I have done both theatre and cinema and I believe in an artistic approach for all my characters. Due to that, I try to build the character from scratch and give it a unique and natural personality".
The actor adds, “Basically, I want people to experience a certain feeling that they have never felt before through my acting form. I wanna give my fans, viewers & audiences goosebumps and make them, as well as the directors understand that I can play unique types of serious roles too. Honestly, I want to explore different genres like sci-fi, psychopathic roles, historical fiction, horror, fantasy, drama, etc.”
Dream actor & directors to work with?
“I am a very spontaneous actor and I like it when the directors and actors have that creatively collaborating like-mindedness for the character I am performing. Hence, I dream to be directed by Anurag Kashyap sir, Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir, Rajkumar Hirani sir, Nitesh Tiwari sir, Sharat Katariya sir and Zoya Akhtar ma'am. When I watch their films, I feel extremely driven and inspired to be directed in one of their projects”.
He adds, “The actor whom I idolise the most is none other than Shah Rukh Khan. I have been his fan since childhood and I even acted in 2 television shows of Red Chillies' Productions- 'Ghar Ki Baat Hai' on NDTV Imagine & 'Ishaan' on Disney Channel back in 2009. I met him during the success party of our shows and like I imagined, he was always grounded and grateful. He hugged me throughout the press conference. It makes me smile till today”.
He says, “Apart from that, I am a huge fan of Pankaj Tripathi sir, Nawazuddin Siddiqui sir, Manoj Bajpayee sir and K.K. Menon sir because I believe that I relate with them in terms of their struggle and background. I am the only breadwinner of my family and it's the love for my art and passion that's helping me pay the bills. Hence, they a great inspiration for me and they motivate me to work harder and push myself further”.
What are your upcoming projects?
“Recently, I have wrapped up another Amazon Prime Video's OTT show named 'Pranksters', wherein I am playing the primary lead role. It's entirely shot in Indore”.
