I got into acting not just for the glamour : Neha Sargam

If you think, social networking sites are just for fun, you are mistaken. They can mean serious business too. Ask Karan Kundra, if you have any doubts. Ekta Kapoor discovered Kundra on a social networking forum and was so impressed by his credentials that she immediately offered him Kitni Mohabbat Hai. The rest, as we all know, is history. Kundra has become the heartthrob of thousands of girls across the country. Neha Sargam is another example.

From Patna, Neha is currently acting in Rajan Shahi's Chaand Chupa Badal Mein. Neha had participated in the auditions for Indian Idol 4 , but destiny had something else in store for her. She couldn't make it to the second audition after meeting with a road accident where she injured herself and was down with a throat infection. "A well-wisher uploaded the audition on You Tube and Rajan Shahi saw that footage and called me. Rajan Sir mentioned about his popular shows, Bidaai and Yeh Rishta. I was completely confused when he called me. I was wondering, why would he call me? Only after some time he told me he has conceived a show where the lead protagonist is like me. He asked me to come down to Mumbai for the look test which he said was a formality," recalls Neha. The rest of it was a dream-come-true for her. "It is like a Cinderella story. I was aspiring to do an MBA having completed my graduation from Patna college in advertisement and sales promotion and marketing. But then I came to Mumbai and started a different career altogether," the actress says. Neha is playing Nivedita who is very hesitant and an introvert. "She belongs to a middle-class family in Simla. She loses her mother very young and is completely protected within her family. But in her own way she is very strong and a motherly figure to her brother and father," explains Neha about her character. "This is my first ever brush with acting. Thankfully Rajan Sir organised a one-week acting workshop for me. It was conducted by veteran actress Amardeep Jha. I am very thankful to her. Whatever I am performing, I owe it to her. She made us exercises related to acting. It was of great help," explains Neha. Neha is quite confident that ultimately she will create a niche in the singing world too. "I feel acting is a link to my singing career," says the aspiring singer. Neha's maternal grandfather -- Padamsri Pandit Siyaram Tewari -- was a great Dhrupad maestro. "I belong to a musical family and will certainly do something related to music." Then why did she step into acting? For glamour? "It's not only the glamour. It was about the opportunity. As a singer you emote a lot so that is helping me a lot to perform," she retorts. Only time can say how soon Neha finds her bearings in this industry.
