Veteran horror Filmmaker Gangu Ramsay passes away at 83

The veteran cinematographer-director who was credited for working on horror films like Purani Haveli, Veerana, among others, passed away in Mumbai. He was 83 years old.

MUMBAI : We are all aware of the Ramsay Brothers who have brought chills down spines of millions with their films. Sadly, one of their brothers Gangu Ramsay passed away on Sunday. The veteran cinematographer-director who was credited for working on horror films like Purani Haveli, Veerana, among others, passed away in Mumbai. He was 83 years old.

Gangu Ramsay’s family sent a statement that read, “With profound sadness, we announce the passing of one of the Ramsay Brothers, the legendary cinematographer, filmmaker, producer, and the second eldest son of F.U. Ramsay, Gangu Ramsay. He departed from us early this morning at 8 am, at the age of 83, after battling health issues for the past month. He was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital," the family said in a statement.”

His last rites took place.”

Gangu Ramsay is survived by his two children, “a daughter named Geeta and a son named Chander.”

Originally called Ramsinghani, they eventually called themselves the ‘Ramsay Brothers’. They became the pioneers of ‘b-grade’ horrors flicks and gained immense recognition and popularity for their films like Purani Haveli, Band Darwaza, Veerana, Purana Mandir, among many many others.

Each brother had their responsibility when it came to films. While Kumar Ramsay wrote scripts, Kiran Ramsay composed sounds, and Gangu Ramsay was the cameraman. Keshu Ramsay helped with the cinematography and Arjun Ramsay managed the post-production and editing. Tulsi and Shyam Ramsay took care of the direction.
