Rely heavily on mindfulness practices like meditation to keep my mental fortitude intact: Anuj Kohli on night shoots

MUMBAI: Anuj Kohli, who is seen as Saransh in Ravindra Gautam and Raghuvir Shekhawat’s Dahej Daasi, which is produced under their banner Do Dooni 4 Films, says he is a day creature and enjoys shooting during the day. But being an actor, he knows the job comes with occasional night shoots too, and meditation comes to his rescue in those times.

“Ah, the infamous night shoots! While some may thrive under the moon's glow, I must admit, I'm a creature of the daylight. There's something about the sun's warmth that fuels my creativity and productivity. Nonetheless, when duty calls for those nocturnal escapades, I rely heavily on mindfulness practices like meditation to keep my mental fortitude intact. It's a delicate balance, no doubt, but one that we actors embrace with resilience and a touch of humor,” he said.

He acknowledges that being an actor is a full-time job, and it can mean going without holidays for a long time, but he says since he is playing a supporting role, he manages to spend his time with his family and friends.

“Handling the rigors of a daily soap schedule while maintaining a semblance of personal life can indeed be quite the juggling act, wouldn't you agree? As an actor immersed in this world, I've found that while it's not a walk in the park for anyone, the intensity varies,” he said.

“As a character in a supporting role, I'm fortunate to not be tethered to the set for the entirety of each month. This affords me the luxury of carving out precious moments for myself and my loved ones amidst the whirlwind of shooting schedules,” he added.

Anuj also pointed out that the daily grind of a soap opera is not for the faint-hearted, especially when coupled with the sweltering heat of summer. He further added, “The physical toll is undeniable, compounded by the logistical challenges of constant commuting to distant places. Despite the hurdles, we press on, fueled by our commitment to the craft and the satisfaction of delivering compelling performances.”
