Anuj Thapan, one of the defendants in Salman Khan's dismissal case, was discovered dead in the crime branch police lock-up's restroom on May 1. The accused was charged with suicide, according to the police, but in a plea submitted to the High Court on May 3, his mother Rita Devi claimed foul play and that her son was killed.

In a significant development, the Bombay High Court on Monday ordered the removal of Salman Khan's name from the plea asking for a CBI investigation into Anuj Thapan's death while he was in custody.

Thapan's mother Rita Devi, the petitioner, was instructed by a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Shyam Chandak to remove Khan's name from the document.

The court has now said, “Delete his name. Petitioner seeks leave to amend the petition to delete the name of respondent 4 as there is no pleading against him and no relief sought against him.”

The bench said, “What is the point of making a person who is supposed to be the victim a party respondent? We see no reason why respondent 4 (Salman Khan) should continue to be in this plea. He is not a necessary party.”

The court further added, “Your (petitioner) focus should be on the main issue. By doing this, you are digressing from the core issue which should be your concern.”

Salman’s security has been beefed up and on the work front, Salman will soon begin filming for AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar opposite Rashmka Mandanna.
