Sanjay said, “We are still working on its script. We wrote one entire script during the lockdown. But then we realized that we didn’t want to go down that road. The genre of Mumbai crime in the 90s has become saturated. The Excel show, Bambai Meri Jaan, is also based in the same zone. Ab hum log kitna Dawood aur Chhota Rajan ka story karenge?”

He further added, “Hence, we went back to the drawing board and we sat down with the writer’s team. Now, we are contemplating setting the story out of Mumbai. So, Shootout 3 will be about some shootout that took place in another part of the country.”

Sanjay said that Mumbai crowds are fascinated with the underworld but that is not the case in the North. He said, “Both the Shootout films did not fare as well in Punjab as they did in Mumbai. Both the films were hits and yet, 60% of their revenue came from Maharashtra. Now, someone residing in Amritsar or Bathinda, usko kya malum Lokhandwala ya Wadala kya hai ya kahan hai? Hence, that is also the idea that we make it more appealing to a larger audience. When the story takes place in the heartland, then it becomes relatable to everybody.”
