MUMBAI: It’s said, ‘Yoga Se Hi Hoga’, and many actors from the Indian entertainment industry swear by it. As International Yoga Day approaches, actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee, portraying Chhati Maiyya in Sun Neo’s new show Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, opened up on how yoga has changed her life. The actress, an ardent follower of yoga, shared insights into her daily routine and the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of the practice. She also encouraged people to embrace yoga in their lives.
Opening up on her daily routine, Devoleena shared, “I begin each day with yoga; it has become an essential part of my daily routine. I've been practicing this ancient discipline for over 3 years now, and it has completely transformed my body, mind, and spirit. If I miss even one day of my practice, I feel incomplete throughout the day; it's as though something is lacking. Yoga has benefited me in many ways, including stress relief, enhanced flexibility, and spiritual growth. I feel stronger and more confident in my body than ever before.”
Revealing how Yoga has been a game-changer for her, both physically and spiritually, Devoleena said, “As an actor, maintaining fitness and staying in shape is always expected, and yoga has helped me meet those demands. It helps me stay fit, flexible, and manages stress, keeping me mentally focused. This mental clarity and composure are crucial when I have a hectic schedule or challenging scenes to perform. Yoga genuinely supports my overall well-being and enriches my performance as an actor.”
“Beyond the physical benefits, yoga has also helped me become more patient, compassionate and empathetic. One of the most unexpected changes yoga has brought into my life is a newfound sense of creativity. The peaceful moments on my mat have sparked ideas and solutions to challenges that I never would have considered otherwise. It has also strengthened my relationships; by learning to be more present and mindful during practice, I've become a better listener and communicator in my personal life,” the Chhathi Maiyya actress added.
The talented actress, who has been practicing yoga for several years now, doesn't just have one or two favorite poses; there are several that she enjoys. Speaking about her favorite yoga poses, Devoleena said, “I enjoy practicing various poses like the butterfly pose, bridge pose, and triangle pose. The butterfly pose is excellent for opening up the hips and promoting flexibility in the inner thighs, while the bridge pose strengthens the back and glutes. The triangle pose is fantastic for enhancing balance and stretching the sides of the body, leaving me feeling invigorated. I also love practicing Surya Namaskar, a wonderful sequence that rejuvenates my entire body and mind, making it a perfect way to start the day.
Lastly, encouraging everyone to practice yoga, Devoleena said, “While it's the era of gyms, with many people hitting the gym every day, I believe you can stay fit, healthy, peaceful, and happy simply by practicing yoga for a few minutes at home. We all have our preferences, dislikes, and reservations, but I'd encourage everyone to give it a try and experience the changes firsthand.
