MUMBAI : The 'Welcome' franchise starred actor Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor as Uday and Majnu, respectively, a role that was adored by fans and went on to become a mainstay in popular culture. Even though it is hard to picture the brand without the two, they will regrettably not be present in the next entry. The renowned Anil and Nana duo will not appear in the upcoming multi-starrer, which stars Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Suneil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Aftab Shivdasani, Disha Patani, and many others. Patekar recently explained why he and Anil rejected the next installment in the franchise in an interview.

Initially Nana was not sure about playing the role of Uday Bhai. He said, “But it wouldn't have been complete if Anil and I weren't doing it together. If Anil and I are there, then only Welcome is possible. If you remove me, then he alone can't make Welcome and vice-versa.”

Nan acknowledged that the movie's 2015 follow-up, "Welcome Back," did not leave an impact on viewers and consequently did not perform well at the box office. Anees Bazmee directed the sequel as well. Ahmed Khan is the director of the upcoming movie "Welcome To The Jungle."

Nana revealed why he and Anil decided not to do the film saying, “They did approach us. We said no. Kahani nahi hai. Utna mazza nahi aaya. (There's no story. We didn't enjoy it as much)”

In addition, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, Feroz Khan, and Mallika Sherawat participated in Anees Bazmee's 2007 hit film. Anil, Nana, and Paresh returned in the 2015 follow-up, although John Abraham and Shruti Haasan played the lead roles instead. Dimple Kapadia and Naseeruddin Shah were also included.
