Diya Aur Baati Hum enriches the society with goodness: Ashok Lokhande

Ashok Lokhande
The talented actor, Ashok Lokhande, who plays the very loving and supporting Babasa in Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum (Shashi Sumeet Productions), is glowing with happiness after he recently won the ‘Favourite Sasur’ Award at the recently held Star Parivaar Awards. Smiling broadly, the National School of Drama alumni says, “I have been in the industry for 22 years and have had a long association with Star Plus for the last seventeen years, and this is my first award. I am feeling elated and happier as my daughter is very proud of me.” Talking about his journey, the actor avers, “I wanted to be in films, but joined television due to lack of opportunities. But soon some really interesting roles made me a popular face. After so many years that have passed by, I am still fondly remembered as Altu uncle of Son Pari. That gives an idea as to how much a TV show character can attract and retain the audiences’ attention. I am fortunate to have played some really good characters in my career span so far.” The actor who is also remembered for his roles in Saans and Just Mohabbat, is of the view that his character in the Diya Aur Baat…has grown and come from the stage where he just stood as a mere piece. “Initially, I wasn’t given much dialogues or actions but now Babasa has come out of the background zone and has an important role to play in the family. He is the one who gives so much support to his daughter-in-law Sandhya (Deepika Singh) to let her fulfill her dreams, sometimes even going against the wishes of his wife (Neelu Waghela),” he observes. But why does he never contradict Bhabho in front of all? “That is our culture. Since it would be embarrassing for children to see their parents fight, Babasa makes it a point to confront her only when they are alone. This also gives the different perspective of Bhabho’s character to the audience, who gets to see her act as a wife who answers her husband’s doubt and not just a strict law maker at home.” The numero uno show on TV recently celebrated 500 episodes. “I am glad to be a part of a show which is enriching the society with so much of goodness. Not many serials today can do that, lest achieve such a feat. The entire team works to make this show a success and we are all working hard for it. And most importantly, the story has just begun; the audience is yet to be treated with the real drama.” Tellychakkar.com wishes Ashok more such feats ahead!!!
