MUMBAI: Indian cinema is known to present and celebrate the stories of several cultures and traditions in a grand manner. Be it the actors or the actresses, everyone has seen characters from different cultures, and one of them that is widely celebrated is Maharashtrian characters. While in recent years, several notable actresses have seen playing the Maharashtrian look, the upcoming film ‘Sarfira’ starring Akshay Kumar and Radhikka Madan is a fresh example of it, where the lead actress is playing the character of a Marathi girl and an entrepreneur. As the film gears up for its July 12th release, let's take a look at five actresses who played Maharashtrian characters on screen.
1)Priyanka Chopra:
The actress Priyanka Chopra, who has made her mark across various industries, was seen playing the Maharashtrian character in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminey, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Bajirao Mastani. While in the former she appeared as ‘Sweety Shekhar Bhope’, the actress played Kashibai in the historical drama Bajirao Mastani.
2)Sridevi:
Yesteryear’s celebrated actress Sridevi was seen essaying the character of a Marathi woman, Shashi Godbole, in Gauri Shinde's directed ‘English Vinglish’. Her performance in comedy drama was widely appreciated by everyone, and she also won ‘Outstanding Performer of the Year’, and it was also shortlisted for Oscar nominations.
3)Kangana Ranauat:
In the historical war drama ‘Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi’, Kangana Ranauat essayed the real-life character of Rani Lakshmi Bai, aka Manikarnika Manu.
4)Radhikka Madan:
In the film ‘Sarfira’, talented and versatile actress Radhikka Madan is seen playing a complete Maharashtrian character 'Rani' alongside Akshay Kumar. Her performance in the film is widely appreciated by the critics and the audiences, calling her as a perfect fit for the role.
5)Kriti Sanon:
Actress Kriti Sanon, who was seen playing Parvati Bai in Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical drama 'Panipat', The actress looked beautiful in the character.
