MUMBAI : In the 1980 love drama Abdullah, which was also directed by Sanjay Khan, and the 1973 thriller Dhund, Zeenat Aman was paired with Khan. The two stars were rumored to have been dating in the 1970s, although they never verified these reports. It was also widely reported that Sanjay and Zeenat had married in Rajasthan in 1978 in front of two witnesses, and that their union had been dissolved the following year, in 1979.
Farah Khan Ali, Simone Arora, Sussanne Khan, and Zayed Khan are the three girls and one boy that Sanjay Khan and Zarine Katrak had together since their 1966 marriage. Zayed talked candidly about his father's alleged liaison with the actress from Hare Rama Hare Krishna in a recent interview.
Zayed Khan revealed, “At that time, the whole industry was the Wild Wild West. It wasn’t just happening in my dad’s house, it was happening in every actor’s house. Every person was highly eccentric except one or two oddballs who were really sincere and grounded; the rest of them...phew! When I was young, I used to see these guys partying and dressing up in those jazzy Versace shirts and their things. It was a whole different era back then. They were real personalities.”
Additionally, there were media allegations claiming that in December 1979, at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, Sanjay Khan violently attacked Zeenat Aman, causing damage to her right eye. Even while the actress avoided discussing this terrifying experience in any of her interviews, the actor refuted these accusations, branding them as a carefully thought-out public relations smear campaign against him.
