MUMBAI : In a recent conversation, actor Arshad Warsi talked candidly about raising his two teenage children and the conflict he occasionally sees between them. Arshad also mentioned how social media is the largest influence in their lives and how the "s**t" they read and watch online greatly shapes their views. Arshad described the idea of non-monogamous partnerships being experimented with by the younger generation as "toxic" when questioned about it.
Arshad spoke about kids being influenced by social media saying, “Then the whole thing about ‘you have to try everything’. Go with the boys, go with the girls, go with this and that and then decide and you don’t have to do this, and you don’t have to do that. Life doesn’t have to be like this. Matlab har voh cheez jo purkho ke zamane se chali aa rahi hai, humare maa baap ne sikhayi hai, jo norm lagta hai insan ko isme, voh sari cheezein galat hain (Like everything that has been going on for generations, that our parents have taught us, which we think is the norm, all of that is wrong.) This is purely social media,”
Arshad spoke about his 19 year old son Zeke who was once a “fit kid” Started eating junk food after he saw a Youtube video, “That’s the problem. That’s food. Then one guy will come and mention his thoughts. I identify myself as a cup, I identify as this, you are consuming that sh*t, you are just getting s*****d. Unfortunately, they will realise this after a long time that they were wrong.”
Arshad said today’s kids are following a worrying pattern of being hooked onto their phones. He said, “I don’t like it when they isolate themselves. This is a thing with this generation, it wasn’t the case earlier. Their life revolves around their phone. Once they enter their room, they don’t get out for 2-3 days.”
Arshad has a 19-year old son Zeke and 17-year-old daughter Zene.
