MUMBAI: The popular face of OTT, Ankur Rathee was raised in America and decided to move to India to learn acting. He is currently seen in the Sony LIV series 'Undekhi'. The actor recently spoke about being judged for his accent and how it took lots of effort and years to change his accent and to prove that he can also play the typical Indian character.

The actor said, “It still happens to me. Right now, I may be speaking to you normally in Hindi and can do so even in Haryanvi. It's only when I switch to English that my accent makes people realise that I was raised in the US. Then they started calling me NRI and even expressed doubt about how I would play a local character. It took me a lot of effort; there have been times when I have pretended or spoken consciously in a neutral tone. It's almost like I try to fly under the radar.”

The actor realised that after proving himself the casting agents and the directors have realised his potential to which he said, "They have seen what I can do; tassali hogayi hai unko (they are now satisfied) that I can speak Hindi and do all kinds of characters. Hence, today, it's less of an issue."

Web series and even films have been showcasing a massive violence on screen for a few years now and his series ‘Undekhi’ also falls into this category. Talking about the same, the actor said "There is an audience, and hence crime thrillers are so popular. I think not just OTT, but even films have glorified violence, and so we need to be cautious about letting children watch them. It's an impressionable medium and can impact young minds. This has been happening around the world for many years. As a society, we tend to find some sort of sick pleasure in seeing humanity in its most aggressive form. However, coming to our show, first and foremost it's a family drama. There is action and violence but within the world of this family's complexities. It's the interpersonal relationships that drive the show.”
