MUMBAI: The detective novel ‘A Study in Scarlet’ came out in 1887 got the audience’s attention and this was when the famous detective ‘Sherlock Holmes’ made his first appearance. Ever since then, the fictional detective has got us hooked with not just books but even series and movie adaptations. While there is a whole debate on who they liked as Sherlock Holmes, Robert Dawney Jr. or Benedict Cumberbatch, now we have an Indian version that might be included in the debate soon, so make way for ‘Shekhar Home’.

While some might feel that this is a ‘wannabe’ attempt in making a desi Sherlock Holmes, you might want to think twice as this series is not going to let you leave the screen for even a second. Talking about the engagement level of the series, Shekhar Home stars Kay Kay Menon, Ranvir Shorey, Kirti Kulhari, Rasika Duggal and Dibyendu Bhattacharya.

Kay Kay Menon has done a fabulous job as detective Shekhar Home while Ranvir Shorey plays the role of a sidekick and with all due respect, they complement each other really well. Casting Director Kavish Sinha has surely done a fabulous job here, not only for the protagonist but even for the antagonists.

The show indulges you as Shekhar Home meets Doctor Jayvrat and goes on to solve a good variety of criminal cases. What will really get your interest peaked is the eye on details and Kay Kay Menon’s performance as a detective that will never go wrong. Kay Kay Menon as Shekhar Home checks all the boxes if you are missing Sherlock Holmes.

Yes, it’s amazing to watch the performances of all the actors but it is equally intriguing to see how the story gets complicated with every episode and we must say, Aniruddha Guha, Niharika Puri and Vaibhav Vishal have done a fantastic work taking care of all the detailing and what not. BGM by Joel Crasto seems to play a perfectly subtle role and when paired with some heavy scenes, it does a fine job in giving you all the thriller ‘feels’.

Keeping a check on detailing, character development, a perfect touch of comedy and a vision that can compete with even Hollywood shows, director Srijit Mukherji and Rohan Sippy along with Shanu Singh Rajput’s cinematography, have given us a perfect detective show that will get us hooked right from the first moment when Ranvir Shorey gets introduced as Doctor Jayvrat.

In conclusion, there are moments when the series might go a little slow but hold on as there will be some horrific revelations awaiting.

Team Tellychakkar gives this a 3.5/5.
