MUMBAI: Since the time Hindi cinema got established, we have seen some amazing genres like Action, thriller, comedy and suspense. Yes we have watched and re-watched these movies and they have never failed to entertainment. With time, the taste of audience for cinema has evolved and so even the makers had to up their game…and many did with some unique stories and sub-genres but there are a few sub-genres that we feel that the makers still have to introduce to the audience as now it seems like the right time when the audience demands for such new topics and stories.
Talking about sub-genres that need to be introduced, first one on the list is Slasher. In 1999, we got ‘Kaun?’ starring Urmila Matondkar, Sushant Singh and Manoj Bajpayee and then in 2003 we saw Dino Morea in ‘Sssshhh…’ but when thinking about a slasher movie today we go clueless. However, with the changing taste of audience, we believe this might work out.
Next on the list is Animal Attack horror movies and we know a lot of people would a bit sensitive on the subject we have all seen and loved English movies like ‘Jaws’, ‘Black Water’, ‘Rogue’, ‘Anaconda’ and the very first movie of the sub-genres ‘The Birds’. When it comes to the Hindi side, we have seen ‘Junoon’, ‘Roar: The Tigers of the Sunderbans’ and Aatank. While we have seen the loving side of animals, we also need to the other side as it can really be intriguing and thrilling. Let’s admit it, we all love some horrifying stories, which is why, a sub-genres like this needs a good introduction.
The last one on the list is Time Travelling. Yes, we know that we are now ready for sci-fi and after Kalki 2898 AD we are even ready for sci-fi and Mythology coming together but time travelling movies as sub-genres is something we need a look at. In 2008 we got to watch Love Story 2050 starring Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja. Later in 2016 we got Baar Baar Dekho starring Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif. While the audience had their own opinions for both the movies, the box office performance was so impressive and it only goes to say that with a subgenre so interesting, and with the audience finally accepting sci-fi movies, we need more movies with time travelling.
With this we conclude our list but if you have more such sub-genres that you wish to see in Hindi movies, don’t forget to mention it in the comments below.
