MUMBAI: When talking about spy, thriller and action series, in the past we have seen a lot of amazing shows and adding another name to this list will be Shekhar Home.
The JioCinema series Shekhar Home is directed by Rohan Sippy and Srijit Mukherjee, writter by Aniruddha Guha and stars Kay Kay Menon, Ranvir Shorey, Rasika Duggal, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Kirti Kulhari. The series is available to stream as it has already released on 14th August. The series is produced by BBC Studios Production.
In an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar, Aniruddha Guha opened up about choosing Kay Kay Menon for the role of Shekhar Home.
How did you come to the decision of choosing Kay Kay Menon for the role of Shekhar Home? Were there any other choices?
While clearing how Kay Kay Menon's character is not inspired Benedict Cumberbatch's role, Aniruddha Guha said, "... The idea was never about that we need to get an actor who can be better than Benedict Cumberbatch...fortunately or unfortunately there is now a certain association with Benedict when it comes to Sherlock but having said that, the idea was not that the actor has to stand up to Benedict because Benedict was not important to us, the point was that the actor has to, whoever actor who plays Sherlock is, has to actually live up to the original Sherlock Holmes' character that had been created by Arthur Connon Doyle and the thing about that character is that you will need an actor who has a certain level of intelligence already attached to them. Apart from the character and the character's brilliance and the smartness and the quirks, you need an actor who you already have a positive association with. So when BBC brought the show to me and it was a very basic idea. All they had was 'we want to make Sherlock in India and we have Kay Kay Menon interested in playing Sherlock.' He had not signed on yet but the understanding was that Kay Kay had been signed it off and he had said I like the idea of playing Sherlock but it is a huge undertaking, there are going to be a lot of expectations attached to it so I will sign on the dotted lines once I've read the script' So I still remember after writing the pilot episode is when Kay Kay was sent the screenplay and he read it and then he gave the green signal to play it. So when I was writing it ! agreed to the Sherlock adaptation primarily because I knew that we have one problem taken care of which is the actor. Kay Kay is not any ordinary actor. He carries with him a certain aura, a certain body of work, there is a certain reliability when you see the actor on screen..."
