MUMBAI: Sohum Shah’s starrer and production “Tumbbad," directed by Rahi Anil Barve is gearing up for an eagerly awaited re-release. When the film first premiered in 2018, it was launched alongside several major productions, which unfortunately got sandwiched between other big films and did not get the attention it deserved. However, over time, "Tumbbad" has developed a dedicated cult following, its return to theatres is generating significant buzz.

Set to hit theatres again on September 13, "Tumbbad" is already seeing impressive advance bookings. Just two days before its re-release, approximately 6,000 tickets have been sold across major national chains like PVRInox and Cinepolis for the opening day. PVRInox leads with over 4,000 tickets sold, while Cinepolis has seen nearly 2,000 sales. The strong advance ticket sales suggest that "Tumbbad" will enjoy a prominent presence on the big screen.

Fans are particularly excited for the film’s return, reflecting in the robust advance bookings. With just two days remaining, projections indicate that "Tumbbad" will comfortably surpass 20,000 ticket sales in these top chains by the end of advance bookings. This impressive start hints that the re-release could see "Tumbbad" significantly exceed its original opening day numbers, potentially quadrupling its previous record.

The enthusiastic response to the film’s re-release underscores the idea that some movies, like "Tumbbad," may indeed be ahead of their time. The film's resurgence is likely to surpass its original run earnings within the first week, challenging conventional verdicts and demonstrating its enduring appeal.

"Tumbbad" has already garnered critical acclaim, with eight nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards and wins in categories such as Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound Design. It also made history as the first Indian film to be featured in the Critics’ Week section at the 75th Venice International Film Festival.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and creatively guided by Anand Gandhi, with Adesh Prasad as co-director, the film features a talented team of writers including Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Gandhi. Produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah, and starring Jyoti Malshe and Anita Date-Kelkar alongside Sohum Shah, "Tumbbad" is currently not available on any OTT platforms, adding to the excitement for its theatrical return.
