In an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar, we got to meet the cast of Berlin, Aparshakti Khurana, Anupriya Goenka and Rahul Bose where they opened up about their characters and gave insights about how they prepped for it all.

Aparshakti Khurana talked about the movie and his character and said, “Yaar ha difficult film hai. Sign language seekhna humara kaam hai. Upar se sign language ka ek bohot hi adbhut tareeka hai jo logo ko nahi pata hoga ki jaise hum bolte hai, woh kaafi baar uske sign ulte chalte hai. So jaise aap Urdu ulti likhte hai, waise uska signing ka process bhi thoda sa ulta hota hai. Ye zaroori nahi hai ke agar main aap se kahoon ke mujhe ek glass pani chahiye toh glass pehle aaye aur chahiye baad mein aaye. Ye zaroori nahi hai. So usme kaafi pechida maamla tha. Apart from that, jo main sign kar raha hoon woh toh yaad karna hi hai, jo Ishwak bol raha hai who bhi mujhe yaad karna hai because mujhe announce karna inko ki woh kya keh raha hai…but all in all, we prepped well. We were fine on set and I think we have made a film which we will be proud of.”

When asked Anupriya Goenka about her character, the actress said, “Honestly itna challenging nahi tha. On set thoda bohot tha because I didn’t prep for the character much to be very honest. I just went along with the flow and for me it was more challenging to figure the character out as I shot for it because, I’ve said this before, kyu ki dialogues nahi the, woh scenes likhe hue nahi the, everything just had an outline to it, and we were shooting it along the way so it was a lot about me and Atul sir, interacting with him asking him how he interpreted the scene, what my character must be feeling at that point of time and building it up with that and trying to keep a thread…toh to find that space ki woh hai, I think to figure out what she is internally and try bringing that on screen. I hope that has been communicated somewhere. I think jab aapke paas dialogues hote hai toh ek zariya mil jata hai aapko express karne ka. Bina dialogues ke express karna, woh thoda interesting bhi the mere liye.”

Rahul Bose talked about his character and said, “I think the prep for Sondhi, the accent, is got a very basic way of speaking. Sondhi, thodi Punjabi accent is also there, but outside of that I think what the major preparation for Sondhi was internal. This is a man who has to win at any cost. This is a man whose survival, his self-survival is most important. He’s devoid of compassion, empathy, kindness, so how to play this man at a time in life when he is desperate, this is make or break for him, he can’t let this go. Ek tarfa he is dealing with people like him (Aparshakti Khurana’s character) who he can treat with violence, and lack of respect, and then he has a boss played by Kabir Bedi, who he has to defer to in his game to survive. The boss is also going to control him. So it’s very interesting to see Sondhi with his boss, how does he actually navigate his ego and he’s got a boss on top of him. So those things I found very interesting because Sondhi is forced to pretend to be subservient, although he is calling the shots. It’s very interesting for me to do.”

This was our conversation with the cast of Berlin where Aparshakti Khurana, Anupriya Goenka and Rahul Bose gave some interesting insights about their respective characters.
