MUMBAI: Previously, actress Mayoori Kango—who gained recognition for her role in Mahesh Bhatt's 1996 film 'Papa Kahte Hai'—spoke about the challenges faced by women in the entertainment business.
Mayoori was seen talking with a well-known media organization. In the video that was published, the host questioned Mayoori on how an actress's career frequently changes if she is coupled with an actor like Hrithik Roshan or Shah Rukh Khan.
Mayuri said, “Because Indian films are sadly man's maiden, which is a man's game because that is the way how society functions. How much you want to deny it, it is the man's world.”
She further added, “So, the more successful the man is better it is to be paired with him because it isn't bragging because the heroine doesn't sell her territory but a man does, so the more successful the hero is and if you are paired with him then it is considered that success is supposed to rub-off when you are somewhere, I guess.”
With the film "Naseem," directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza, she made her acting debut. In addition to Mayoori, important roles were played by Kay Kay Menon, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, late Surekha Sikri, Kaifi Azmi, and Makrand Deshpande.
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt was struck with Mayoori's riveting performance in "Naseem," and she went on to land the main role in his groundbreaking picture "Papa Kahte Hai," which also starred renowned actors Anupam Kher, Tiku Talsania, Alok Nath, and Jugal Hansraj.

Mayuri recently joined Google India as the Indian Industry Head.
