MUMBAI: Rajasthan Royals’ batter Nitish Rana stood by the team’s decision to send Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer to bat in the Super Over against Delhi Capitals on April 16, despite criticism following their narrow defeat.

Rana, who had top-scored for RR with a fluent 51 off 28 balls and shared a vital partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 off 37), was not selected to bat in the tie-breaker. Speaking after the match, Rana emphasized that the decision was a collective one involving the captain, coaching staff, and senior players.

“The management decides. If Hetmyer had hit two sixes, this question wouldn’t have come up,” Rana remarked, highlighting Hetmyer’s reputation as the team’s finisher. He also noted that Super Over outcomes are result-driven and such calls are made with trust in the team’s structure.

Despite the loss, Rana remained firm, stressing that strategic decisions are made with the team’s best interests in mind and not based on hindsight.
