From More Singing to Working on a Script: Namita Lal Shares Her Wishes for 2025

MUMBAI: Namita Lal, known for her roles in movies like Before Life After Death, Lihaaf, Country of the Blind, Oxygen, and Football - The Goal, to name a few, will soon be seen in Inn Galiyon Mein alongside Jaaved Jaaferi. She has outlined three key goals on her wishlist for 2025.

Talking about her aspirations, Namita said, “The first thing I want to do is practice my music and singing much more. I aim to dedicate time to regular riyaz and focus deeply on singing.”

“I want to learn the old classical pieces I enjoy singing, but this time, I aim to master them. My goal is to perform these songs confidently whenever I get the chance. This has been on my wishlist for a long time, but in 2025, I plan to prioritize it and take it seriously,” she added.

Namita’s connection to music runs deep, as her parents studied classical music. She has been singing Hindi songs, especially old classics, for many years. “My mother, in particular, learned from Begum Akhtar and is a Bhathkhande graduate. Despite my love for music, I’ve never fully committed to learning classical singing. Recently, under the guidance of my current Guruji, I had the opportunity to perform Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh—a song I’ve sung countless times. But this time, with proper technical training and live music accompaniment, I realized just how much there is to learn—the nuances and depth not just of this song, but of many others I love. This revelation has inspired me to improve my singing,” she shared.

“When I sang that evening, it felt like my soul came alive. The audience’s reaction was overwhelming—I couldn’t believe I had sung at the same pitch as Lata Ji and carried it off so well with live music. My Guruji was incredibly happy and proud. That moment was transformative for me. I’ve now set my sights on mastering some of my favorite songs with my Guruji’s guidance. The next one I’m working on is Chain Se Humko Kabhi Aapne Jeene Na Diya, which has its own fascinating story and emotional weight. I’m currently practicing it and plan to build a solid portfolio of songs I can perform with both technical finesse and heartfelt expression,” she added.

Namita’s second wish for 2025 is to complete and advance the script she has been working on. “This script has been about three to four years in the making, with drafts at various stages. I’ve received valuable input from writers, directors, and producers, including international collaborators from France and the UK. Now, I want to refine it further and explore ways to bring the film to life,” she said.

“Making this film a reality is something I’m deeply passionate about, and I aim to take significant steps forward in this journey,” she added.

Namita’s third wish, which she says has always been close to her heart, is to perform at least one or two incredibly interesting characters on stage or in front of the camera.

“Acting has always been a space where I can explore, grow, and express myself. I want to immerse myself in roles that challenge me, resonate with audiences, and leave a lasting impression,” she concluded.
