MUMBAI: After a lot of appreciation for Kesari, the makers came back with Kesari Chapter 2. The announcement of this new chapter garnered a lot of excitement.
Since a while now, audiences have been loving Akshay Kumar’s performances a little more, be it in Sarfira, Khel Khel Mein or Sky Force. The actor gave an amazing performance in the 2019 movie Kesari where he was paired opposite Parineeti Chopra.
The movie was based on the battle of Saragarhi which took place in 1897. The battle was an unforgettable one between 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British India Army and 10,000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen.
The makers are here with the second chapter and the cast includes Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. While Kesari was directed by Anurag Singh, this time, Kesari Chapter 2 is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi. The movie will be produced by Dharma Production, Leo Media Collective & Cape of Good Films. This time, the movie is based on the story of the unfortunate Jallianwala Bagh massacre which took place in April, 1919. The movie has hit the theatres and is receiving some really great responses from the audience.
In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar, Karan Singh Tyagi opened up about the unawareness that Britishers have in regards to what was happening worldwide during the time of colonialism.
Karan Singh Tyagi said, “Even till today, Caroline Dyer (the granddaughter of General Dyer) thinks that people at Jallianwala Baug were looters, it is shocking. UK ke logo ko na khali yeh pata hai ki Empire na yahan par ek civilization advancement kar raha tha, woh yahan pe dreams bana rahe the, infrastructure bana rahe the, they have no idea about the ill effects, the evil side of colonialism. They do not know about the massacre, they do not know that there was a crawling order which was implemented by General Dyer where people were asked to crawl otherwise they would be whipped. It is shocking.”
The director also added how at the end of the movie they have shown the facts about how people of India were taken to other places to fight Britisher’s wars with a fake promise that if we help them fight their wars, they will offer us freedom.
Here’s another truth revealed by the director. Karan Singh Tyagi said, “Humari film mein 5 actors UK se aaye the. Simon Paisley Day (who played the role of General Dyer), bohot hi behtereen actor hai. Major Briggs ka role kiya Micheal James Parr ne, Alexandra Moloney, she played Martha Stewens, and Steven Hartley who was the judge. Yeh saare actors UK se aaye the and for them the script was an eye-opener. When they were reading the material they were shocked.”
Talking about Simon Paisley Day, the director said, “He recently went on record and stated that ‘I’m ashamed to be an Englishman’. I want this kind of awareness to be spread.”
