MUMBAI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spinner Suyash Sharma recently opened up about his long-standing health struggle and how the franchise helped him through it. Suyash revealed he had been dealing with undiagnosed hernias in three different areas for nearly two years, enduring the pain while playing with injections.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he said, "We were practicing in February, and for two years, I had something going on for me. I played after taking injections. Within India, we weren't even able to identify the problem that I was facing. RCB sent me to London for surgery. I met James Pipe there. He and his family treated me like their family."
Though medical advice suggested he would miss the initial matches of IPL 2025, Suyash made a strong comeback in RCB’s opener against his former side, Kolkata Knight Riders, on March 22. "I had a hernia in three different places… I had had a big surgery, and was told that I would be playing only after three or four games. But Pipey and his family took great care of me," he added.
RCB picked Suyash for ₹2.6 crore in the 2025 mega auction. He previously played for KKR in 2023, taking 10 wickets in 11 matches. In 2024, he went wicketless in two games and was released.
"I had this injury when I wasn't even playing… I just went to a physio, who told me something entirely different… RCB showed a lot of faith in me," Suyash said.
So far in IPL 2025, he has played nine matches and taken four wickets. RCB currently sits on 14 points and is in the playoff race. They next face Chennai Super Kings on May 4 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
