MUMBAI: Though Chennai Super Kings exited IPL 2025 earlier than usual, the emergence of young talent like Ayush Mhatre offers hope for the future. The 17-year-old nearly pulled off a dramatic win against RCB, scoring 94 off 48 balls in a thrilling chase that ended on the final delivery.

In just his fourth IPL game, Mhatre impressed with both confidence and skill. One standout moment came early in his innings when he stepped out to Krunal Pandya and lofted him for a boundary—foreshadowing the fireworks to come. He dominated RCB’s bowling, especially punishing Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 26 runs in one over.

Originally drafted as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mhatre had already shown promise in earlier appearances against MI and SRH. His transition into the CSK setup has been smooth, thanks in part to familiar faces like Shivam Dube.

Head coach Stephen Fleming praised him: “He's got talent... Everything that we like about a modern-day T20 player.” He added, “It's the temperament and being able to execute... that I'm most impressed with.”

While CSK narrowly lost, Fleming summed it up best: “Hopefully, it's the start of a long relationship.”
