"It was good to play a character in The Elite that is the opposite of my real-life personality": Prateik Chaudhary

MUMBAI: Actor Prateik Chaudhary, who has completed five years in the entertainment industry, will soon be seen in a micro drama series titled The Elite. Sharing more about the project, he says, “I am playing a character called Virat Mehra, who is a rich and spoiled brat. He enjoys life on his father’s money and bullies everyone—especially Kiara, who comes from a middle-class background and got admission through a scholarship. Virat constantly tries to bully and make fun of her. But this display of strength is all fake. Deep down, he is a broken man—his father has always hurt him. He also shares a complex relationship with his father because of the latter’s toxic relationship with his mother. I have never played such a layered character in my career, so it was a great learning experience on set as Virat.”

He adds, “It was challenging yet fun to play Virat. And being the lead of the show comes with great responsibility. I was part of every scene. We completed 67 episodes in just three days and had to shoot day and night. There was a lot of pressure, but in the end, you grow under pressure. I am grateful to God and the universe for giving me this opportunity. We shot the entire series in Mumbai. It was amazing working with the cast and crew—everyone was fabulous, very professional, and hardworking.”

Micro drama series are the latest trend being adopted by many producers. Founded by Nadiadwala, Prateik shares that he had no idea about the concept before he began shooting. He says, “Honestly, I wasn’t very aware of it, but once I started working, I researched and found out that it’s trending worldwide and loved by many. For actors and technicians, every new format is an opportunity to showcase our talent. Usually, each episode lasts around 10 minutes and ends with a hook that builds curiosity. I’ve seen many series related to The Elite, and youth and college-based shows are quite popular with the audience. They are fast-paced and very different from traditional TV dramas. After working in television for the past five years, I feel I’ve matured as an actor—but yes, there’s always room for improvement, and I am ready to work on my weaknesses.”
