MUMBAI: Rishabh Pant's ongoing struggles in IPL 2025 have alarmed former cricketers, with Virender Sehwag and Shaun Pollock offering different takes on his dip in form. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper, who was acquired for a staggering ₹27 crore at last year’s Jeddah auction, has managed only 128 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 99.22—his worst IPL season since debuting in 2016.

Pant’s most recent knock, a slow 18 off 17 balls, came during LSG’s 37-run loss to Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. His lack of form has prompted Sehwag to advise some self-reflection. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said, "I think Rishabh Pant should watch his old IPL clips where he scored runs, and that will give him confidence. Many times, we tend to forget our routines because this Rishabh Pant is totally different from the one we saw before his injury.” Sehwag also recalled a similar slump in his own career, saying, “I remember back in 2006/07, when I was struggling with runs, I was dropped from the Indian team, and then Rahul Dravid told me to go back and check my routine from the days when I used to score runs.”
He further urged Pant to connect with someone he trusts: “Again, he does have a mobile, all he needs to pick up the phone and call someone... Dhoni is his role model, so he should call him. It will lighten him up.”
Pollock, part of the English Cricbuzz panel, theorized that Pant might be missing the presence of Indian teammates. “I am wondering what explanations you will give... Is there someone with whom he connects and who brings out that jovial side in him? I'm just trying to pluck on theories, because he is affected and is not in his normal self,” he said.
