MUMBAI: During the IPL 2025 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens on May 7, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) received a bomb threat via email. The threatening message, sent from an unidentified email address, was detected on CAB's official email account while the match was in progress.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. Security at the Eden Gardens stadium was significantly heightened in response, with local police taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of players, staff, and spectators.
The high-profile match took place on the same day as India’s precision counter-terrorism strikes, known as Operation Sindhoor, which targeted nine terror camps associated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. These strikes were a direct response to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
In an official statement, the government emphasized that the operations were "measured, focused, and non-escalatory," and were carried out with "considerable restraint" to avoid civilian or military escalation.
Prior to the match, players from both CSK and KKR, along with BCCI officials, paid tribute to the Indian armed forces. The national anthem was played as players lined up on the boundary line in a show of respect for Operation Sindhoor and the military personnel involved.
Despite the security scare, the event concluded without incident, thanks to prompt action and precautionary measures by law enforcement.
