IPL 2025: Will Ahmedabad be the spot for finals?

Franchises have been informed that teams with a single home game left—like CSK and SRH—will play them in Delhi. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is an exception due to its central location and logistical convenience, with broadcast equipment already stationed there.

MUMBAI: The BCCI has yet to officially confirm venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs, but Cricbuzz reports that Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is the frontrunner to host Qualifier 2 and the final, slated for June 1 and 3. The decision, however, hinges on weather forecasts, with the board monitoring the monsoon’s progression before making any final announcements.

Mumbai is a likely candidate to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, though recent rains and persistent overcast conditions have raised concerns. The BCCI is also considering North Indian cities like Delhi, Jaipur, and Lucknow—provided they remain dry during the crucial playoff period.

Due to logistical challenges, the BCCI is unlikely to shift playoff matches to new cities outside the six currently hosting the 17 remaining league games post the IPL suspension. Transporting and setting up broadcast equipment at new venues for just one or two fixtures is considered inefficient.

Consequently, cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mohali, and Kolkata were excluded. Chennai and Hyderabad had only one home game each left, while Mohali and Dharamsala were dropped due to recent border tensions, leading to Jaipur becoming the new base for Punjab Kings. Kolkata’s unpredictable weather ruled it out, with KKR already completing all home matches at Eden Gardens.

Franchises have been informed that teams with a single home game left—like CSK and SRH—will play them in Delhi. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is an exception due to its central location and logistical convenience, with broadcast equipment already stationed there. The league resumes on May 17, with six venues—Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Jaipur—set to host the remaining matches.
