The devastating fire that destroyed Kapil Sharma’s set for his very popular comedy show has been rebuilt, this time more lavish, and with more space for guests than before.
Colors’ Comedy Nights With Kapil will return this weekend on a larger more lavish set.
What’s more, the set would now have a roadside dhaba attached to it, so that various strangers and guests can drop into the show unannounced.
Confirming these heartening developments post the setback Kapil Sharma says, “Of course it was a setback for our show. We had to re-script and readjust according to the sudden circumstances. Ours was a huge set-up. We had to shift to the Bigg Boss set where the space was limited. Luckily the arrangement was for only two weeks. Our new set is almost ready. This weekend our show will be recorded on the newly-constructed set.”
Kapil says he didn’t feel the temporary set in any way cramped his style. “We had just as much fun on the temporary set. And audiences didn’t seem to mind the change of residence at all. Some people would try to comfort us when we were not looking for any consolation. ‘We don’t mind the small set at all,’ they’d say. But when did I say that they minded? These were people who wanted to say they were troubled by our smaller set. Most people happily went along with our revised circumstances.”
Kapil feels the fire has stoked a more pronounced solidarity between his show and the audience. “The audiences are now emotionally connected with the show. When they saw us in distress they came out to support us on Facebook and Twitter. In fact the show’s fans are now more attached to our show after the fire. We were never allowed to feel the decrease in space because our fans are too large-hearted. I enjoy living up to the people’s expectations. ”
A dhaba has been added to the original set.
Says Kapil, “It will be like an encroachment in the comedy parivar’s home. It would give us a chance to allow all kinds of characters to come on the show. We will have more room for random characters. And we won’t have to explain where they came from, and why .This is an addition to the set post-fire.”
There is dismay though about Kapil’s show being aired only once, every Sunday instead of twice. Says Kapil, “Shall I tell you the honest truth? I wanted our show to be once a week. It’s like making one feature film every week. I understand audiences feel cheated as though two out of the four vegetables in the menu have been snatched away. But it was very difficult to sustain the hour-long humour for two episodes every week. My team and I were constantly over-worked because of the two-episode commitment. But we promise to give audiences in one episode the same value for their funnies that we gave in two episodes. Also, I am glad we have Anil Kapoorji’s show 24 replacing us once a week. It’s a worthy replacement.”
Life moves on. And we come to rumours of Kapil’s love life. Refuting reports linking him to a colleague on his show Kapil says, “Seeing two people working together people come to strange embarrassing conclusions. Yes, I do want to get married. Maa mere peeche padi rahti hain ki beta shaadi kar lo.Let’s see when it happens.”
Kapil who provides so much laughter to humanity enjoys watching videos of animals. “I love observing animals’ behaviour. Actually I love watching animal and human behaviour. But you know what really soothens my soul? Music.”
All the best, Kapil!!!
