Doordarshan to air saas-bahu saga

The success of saas-bahu shows like Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii has inspired a lot many people to make shows on the same concept. The latest to join the bandwagon is Doordarshan’s national network. The channel is going to air a new show named “Kabhi Saas Kabhi Bahu.” The title may suggest that the show is a heavy mix of tragedy, pathos, self-sacrifice and trauma but the show is actually a situational comedy. The show will have stalwarts like Sushmita Mukherjee and Shama Deshpande.

Rajesh Gupta, director of the show says, “Our serial is based on the skirmishes between the saas and bahu. Each episode has a different set of situations and in each episode there will be a competition between them to snatch victory by defeating the other. We have taken everyday situations which unfold before any family.” Talking about her role, Sushmita says, “The show is about three generations and I belong to the middle generation. My role is that of a woman who is a bahu and saas at the same time. The viewers will see me getting sandwiched between my mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.” When asked what made her choose a serial on Doordarshan, the actress says, “Doordarshan is a national channel which is viewed by people from the remotest corner of the country. 90% of the population watches DD. I started my career with Doordarshan and I am proud and privileged to work with it again. I don’t know why one is after satellite channels which are just 10 years old.” The show will air from 2nd April at 09:00 pm.
