In all its years of its existence, Yash Raj Films (YRF) never ventured to do a Bengali film. And now with Gunday (a bilingual in Hindi and Bengali) the studio seems to have made up for what it had not done all these years.
Accordingly, the Bengali version of Gunday will release the day and when the Hindi version releases on Valentine's day on 14 February next year.
Shoot extensively in Kolkata and other parts of Bengal, the film's back drop essentially lends itself to releasing the film in Bengali.
Said a YRF spokesperson, “The film is set during Calcutta’s most turbulent times of the 70’s and this is at the soul of the film with the characters seeped in the culture of that time. Consequently, the plans for releasing the film also in Bengali was finalised at the pre-production stage.”
Gunday has another strong Bengali connect and that is in the form of Bappi Lahiri who has provided the music. Interestingly with this film Bappi da has stepped into the YRF domain.
Starring Ranvir Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Irfan Khan and Priyanka Chopra, Gunday is prompted to be one of the big releases of next year.
