The beginning of the New Year always heralds the awards season. The awards season usually always begins with the Colors’ Screen Awards followed by Filmfare Awards held sometime in February or March.
But there is a change this time with the publication declaring that the 59th Filmfare awards would be held on 24 January next year (2014). With a spectacular range of films this year, the organisers promise a completely different experience.
"It has been another astounding year for Bollywood. More than 130 films produced - films that have been huge commercial successes and have won critical acclaim. For the first time seven films have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark," observed Tarun Rai, CEO, Worldwide Media - the publishers of Filmfare magazine.
Rai added that the remarkable ensemble of films has made it tough for the jury to select the best in every category in this centenary year of Indian cinema.
"It will be a tough task for the Filmfare readers and jury to select the winners as we have both popular and critics' awards. And, of course, you can look forward to a spectacular Awards night. It will be nothing like what we have done before or people have seen so far," he added.
The award ceremony will be held at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai with the attendance of Bollywood's glitterati.
