I am sure comedy as a genre will reach greater heights in the coming years - Disha Vakani

TV actor Disha Vakani, more popularly known as Dayaben of SAB TV’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has been enacting the character for five long years now, but has the same level of enthusiasm even today when it comes to entertaining viewers as Daya. Says Disha, “Well, my father has been an artist and has also produced and directed various drama plays. So I have had a very close bonding with the industry right from childhood; you can also say that I aspired to be an artist in the growing up years. My parents have supported me a lot throughout my journey in the industry. When I initially joined Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, I had never even thought that the show will reach such astounding heights of success.” However, Disha has had to work a lot in making Dayaben a household name. “Initially it was very difficult adjusting to the character and to the gestures of Daya’s character; but now it comes out more naturally to me.” The actress is also glad that ‘comedy’ as a genre is finally getting its due in the TV industry. “Today we have a whole channel dedicated to comedy. I am sure it will reach greater heights in the coming years.” Three cheers to Dayaben!!!
