Vaquar Shaikh (aka Khushal of Veeranwali) had to pay an unlikely visit to the police station after the traffic cops found him driving a car bearing a Punjab number plate.
Confirming the incident, Vaquar says, “I’m working in Veerawanwali which is set against a Punjabi background. Thus we put Punjab stickers on the cars number plates. One day, I used my own car but forgot to remove the PB sticker after the shoot. 12 hours later, I was caught by two traffic policemen at Andheri (E). I was quick to apologise but they didn’t pay any heed to it. They checked my papers and then told me that I’m driving a stolen car. I was taken to Andheri police station and fortunately the senior inspector understood my plight and I was left off with a warning.”
Apparently, the actor used his effective Marathi speaking skills to bail him out of trouble. He adds, “I spoke in Marathi so as to score a point in the current crisis. However, I want to stress that this incident took a week before when the violence in Mumbai took place. I realised the severity of my folly and was quick to blast my producers the very next day.”
Here is one non-Maharashtrian whose effective Marathi bailed him out of a sticky situation.
