It’s every director’s long standing dream to have his/her film screened at an international film festival of great repute. And if as a debutant your movie is chosen to represent your country at a film festival, the feeling of joy is unparalleled. We are sure debutant director Avinash Arun must be experiencing similar feelings right now. His first directorial venture, a Marathi feature film named Killa has been selected to be screened at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival. The movie which is being produced by Jar Pictures will have its world premiere at this film festival.
Killa is also the only Indian film in the Generation Kplus competition category among the 12 films selected from across the world. It is also the third Marathi film to receive a premiere at Berlin, the other two films being Jabbar Patel's Samna in1975 and Umesh Kulkarni's Vihir in 2010.
Starring Amruta Subhash, Archit Deodhar, Parth Bhalerao and Shrikant Yadav, Killa deals with the universal conflict of migration and how it impacts the lives of people, especially children. The story revolves around a young boy Chinu who finds it difficult to adjust to his new surroundings where he has migrated to, after his father’s death. But gradually he makes new friends and gains more confidence.
Talking about the movie, director Avinash says, “Having a world premier at the Berlin film festival means a lot to me. I am enthralled. It's very good news for Marathi as well as other regional film makers in India. I will be able to represent my culture and my people on international platform.”
Produced by Madhukar R Musle, Ajay G Rai, and Alan McAlex under the banner, Jar Pictures and presented by M R Filmworks, the film was a part of NFDC Film Bazaar’s Work-in-Progress (WIP) Lab in 2013.
Killa is slated to release in India this summer.
