I don't think television has evolved at all: Meghna Malik

Meghna Malik
The very stylish and versatile Meghna Malik started her acting journey with theatre. Later drawing inspiration to be a successful actor, the lady stepped into the world of acting on television and films (13 years back) at a time when acting was not seen as a serious profession. Commenting on her journey in the industry, the gorgeous Meghna said, “I am very lucky to have survived (laughs). As an artist I would like to say that it is very difficult to achieve stability in this industry. Here I would like to point out that I have not achieved it yet; stability to me comes after I do different and unique roles.” She went on, “That kind of endeavour still continues; I still consider myself to be a struggler. I have faced situations where I have had to take up a role even though I was not convinced with the character. Having said this, I have given my best shot always.” Meghna claimed that as a medium, television today has evolved in terms of its reach so much so that film stars take the help of this medium to promote their films as the amount of money pumped in by producers is huge. But when it comes to evolving as a medium, the beautiful lady stated that daily soaps have not evolved much. “Today we see how cinema has moved ahead but the daily soaps are still catering to numbers. I, for one, do not think that television has evolved at all,” she added. Talking about the roles she would like to play in future, she averred, “I would play positive or negative roles only to run my kitchen. It is not fun to essay tear-jerking dead roles. I would love to essay complex roles similar to Ammaji in Na Aana Is Des Laado.” “The character of Ammaji did have style, grace and was a larger-than-life character keeping in mind the limitations of a daily soap. I feel lucky as an actor because I do not think such a female character can ever be created on television today. A lot of thought and imagination has to be put into a character like this,” she went on to say. After Ammaji, Meghna seems to have landed from a cricket ground to a boxing ring. She was driven by the challenge offered to essay the character of Barkha in Gustakh Dil, that of an urban woman who shares a complex relationship with her son. Airing her views on new aspirants entering the industry she feels that, “Youngsters today have the drive and energy but it is very easy to lose focus. The question they need to ask themselves is whether they are here for serious acting or just glamour? The wonder woman bid us goodbye after she shared lots of love with her fans. “I wish my fans a peaceful and adventurous year ahead and wish they have interesting objectives to live this wonderful life. I would also request them to keep praying, so that I get offered interesting complex characters to entertain and show more versatility in my acting.” We wish the multi-talented actress all the very best for the year ahead!!!
