Abuse of underage domestic help takes center stage in Anurag Kashyap's "Traffic" on MTV

Anurag Kashyap
With the earlier episodes giving viewers a glimpse of how fraud and false promises of marriage are used to traffic women, the next episode of Traffic gives viewers a glimpse into the dark world of child abuse which is highly prevalent across cities in India. The show follows the story of Namita, a 12-year old girl who is brought to Mumbai from Gorakhpur on the pretext of educating her in the city but instead, is sent to work as a domestic servant at the household of a widowed mother of a 14 year old son and a 2-year-old daughter. Namita suffers unjustifiable abuse at the hands of the son and his friends, before a more responsible student from their college comes to her rescue with the help of Childline Foundation India. The episode looks to shine light on the importance of people not turning a blind eye to such practices around them and reporting the guilty to appropriate authorities. Tune in to MTV this Friday, 14 March, at 7pm as we open your eyes to a world you should know about!
