Bindaas is the new kid on the block, and in sync with its name, they are daring to hit below the belt through its comedy show Lagegi. This daily show will hit the airwaves from September 24 at 8.00pm.
Lagegi is a stand-up comedy that will be hosted by award winning RJ (Radio Jockey) Mantra and rookie anchor Anirudh Sharma. It'll be shot before a live audience of 200 people and to maintain its topicality it'll be telecast within 24-48 hours of being canned. The show features gags, celebrity interviews but its main focus is on topical satirical spoofed content, derived from youth centric, current national and international events.
Producer-director Roshan Abbas says, "Young generation wants entertainment in bubble gum size. They don't want to chew onto something that's long. Lagegi will cater to their requirement. No doubt our style of humor is one that'll hit below the belt, but we wanted to push the envelope a little bit"
Won't the conservatives find this style of humor obscene? Abbas replies, "This is a concern but we aren't too perturbed by it. After all, there isn't any individual in this country who hasn't used the curse word or hasn't said a double meaning thing occasionally. Usually, we discuss these things in the confines of our bedrooms but it's high time we let open our doors and windows and let some fresh air in."
Speaking on his first appearance as a stand-up comedian on television, RJ Mantra says "I liked the concept and since I had some spare time, I chose to take it. However, I'd like to say that I'm not venturing into this so as to become the next best thing on TV.'
He adds further, "I'm basically a person who loves theatre. Unfortunately, there's not much scope, rather money for theatre in India. So, I've taken the initiative to improve it. Well, working in Lagegi will certainly improve my finances."
Anirudh Sharma had this to say, "I've started my career as a rapper. However, Sauraj, an executive in Roshan Abbas' company, tapped me and advised me to take up anchoring. I first anchored a celebrity show called 'Ridka on road' for ETC Punjabi. Thereafter, I auditioned for Lagegi and the CEO of Bindass was adamant on having me."
When asked whether they can watch such a show in front of their parents, the two hosts came up with contrasting replies.
Says Anirudh, "I'm lucky to have liberal parents. In fact, they always state that they'll be disappointed to hear about my mischievous deeds from a third person."
On the other hand Mantra says "I haven't even told my parents that I'm hosting such a show. There's no way that I can watch this in front of them."
We just hope that every parent is as liberal as Mr. and Mrs.Sharma. If they aren't then the offending son or daughter ki toh Lagegi.
