Ankita Bhargava urges the layman to 'stop' buying pedigree dogs and 'start' adopting Indian breeds

Ankita Bhargava
For actress Ankita Bhargava, acting is her passion but ‘welfare of animals’ indeed matters a lot. Recently when she spotted four motherless puppies in Filmcity (set of her show on Sony TV’ Ekk Nayi Pehchaan), her heart went out to the little ones. And when two of them got sick, Ankita brought the two pups home to give them the care that any mother would. However, the actress feels disappointed with the way her country men are mad after foreign brands and products, and feel no pinch when they abandon an Indian breed. Says Ankita, “After nursing the two pups back to health, I called and even messaged around 200 of my friends urging and requesting them to adopt the two pups. But let me tell you, it was disheartening to see the thought of the layman. We are willing to pay in thousands to buy a pug or a lab. But when it comes to the Indian breed, they are unwanted. I did not have the heart to leave the pups without a home, and kept talking to many people about their adoption.” Finally, Ankita got an answer to her requests, ironically on Mother’s Day. “An old friend of mine, an animal lover himself got willing to adopt my furry kids. I went to his place to drop the pups on Mother’s Day. However, I realized that for those three weeks the pups were with me, I was like a mother to them and fulfilled my duty by taking good care of them. Fostering the pups was an experience of a life time,” explains the actress. However, Ankita stresses on the narrow-minded behaviour of people about only buying foreign breed pets. “We need to stop the so-called ‘Puppy Mills’. I want more and more people to stop buying pedigree dogs and start adopting Indian breeds.” Asserting on her long-time goal, she further states, “My dream is to open a shelter for animals in the near future. I wish all actors from the industry would come together and join me in my cause.” Noble thought, Ankita!! We hope you fulfill your goal.
