MUMBAI: The upcoming release Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, brings together a powerful ensemble: Rajnikanth, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, and Sathyaraj. Set to hit theatres on 14th August, the film is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
Shruti, sharing her thoughts on working with Rajnikanth, said: "Now I got the other perspective, I get to hear Rajni sir's stories. I was hearing one side (Kamal Haasan's side) for like 30 plus years and now I get to hear the other perspective. So the lot of people thought that the families were very close but we really weren't. We dint really had that interaction while growing up, I think I must have met him like a hello hi just for 3-4 times in my entire life, so I had no idea who this person beyond the persona was. To me he was Rajni sir like everybody else but it was really wonderful to getting to know him and working with him and he is so different to papa. He is a mix of everything, he is extremely humble and extremely sharp notices everything, he seems extremely non judgemental but is very clear about how he does things. It's really amalgamation of qualities and just very kind to everyone on set, just a pleasure working with him.
He told me once that, 'Thank God for your dad or else I could have hurt my self really badly. Your dad was passing by once and said what you are doing up, I said I am suppose to jump and he said you are not suppose to jump without mattress. He went and bought the mattress and told me how to jump, so I am always thankful to Kamal for that."
Her story about Kamal Haasan saving Rajnikanth from an on-set mishap adds a touching personal layer to their professional journey, making Coolie all the more special for her.
Alongside Coolie, Shruti is expanding her horizons with The Eye, her international debut as a lead. The film, also set to release this year, marks a new chapter in her multifaceted career.
