MUMBAI: Anjali Menon is one of the biggest names down South. She has directed some beautiful movies including Bangalore Days which starred Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, and Parvathy Thiruvothu. Menon’s latest release Wonder Women premiered on Sony LIV and it has been getting a good response.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Anjali Menon and spoke to her about plans of directing a Hindi film, a Hindi remake of her movie Bangalore Days, and more…

You have made some wonderful films down South. Any plans of directing a Hindi movie?

For a very long time, I have been approached for it. But, I would be glad to make any language film depending on the subject. So, the language is incidental to the subject. If a subject is rooted in a particular way, then I will go with that language. For me, Hindi is a language I am extremely comfortable with. I just feel the subject should be true to the language.

This year, not many Bollywood films have done well at the box office, but Hindi dubbed versions of South films have worked well. As a filmmaker why do you feel Bollywood films are not attracting audiences?

I am no one to give theories on that. I think these are all phases where one person is doing well and another one is not doing so well. But, I do feel extremely happy that films are getting the kind of visibility they should and that is a wonderful thing. When a film like Ponniyin Selvan is being watched across the board, it’s a film with a certain quality, it’s a film that has taken with it a certain engagement, and to see a film like that succeed, is something very exciting for me as a filmmaker.

There are reports of your film Bangalore Days being remade as Yaariyan 2. What do you have to say about that?

I don’t know about it. I have not been informed. I have heard about it, but every few years someone remakes my film (laughs).
