Kantara in legal trouble; Kerala-based band calls out makers for plagiarized song

MUMBAI: Rishabh Shetty starrer Kantara has been winning the hearts of audiences ever since the film released. The film has set the cash registers ringing with its powerful story and amazing performances in the thriller. The film has even gone on to become the second highest grossing Kannada film of the year.

Recently the film was released on the OTT platform and has been embroiled in controversy. A kerala-based band named Thaikkudam Bridge has stated that Kantara makers have copied their song Navarasam and made it into Varaha Roopam. 

The band has now stated that they will take legal action against the makers

Yes, you read that right! Thaikkudam Bridge, a Kerala-based band recently claimed that the song Varaha Roopam used in the Risabh starrer film was a copy of their song Navarasam. Amazon Prime Video, where the film premiered, however has now removed the song from it’s OTT version and also announced the same on their social media page.

A few days prior the band Thaikkudam Bridge shared on social media, “We would like our listeners to know that Thaikkudam Bridge is in no way or form affiliated with Kantara. The unavoidable similarities between our IP Navarasam and Varaha Roopam in terms of audio is therefore a blatant infringement of copyright laws.”

After the song Varaha Roopam was removed from the OTT version of Kantara, the band further shared, “Amazon Prime has removed the plagiarized version of our song ‘NAVARASAM’ from the movie KANTARA. Justice Prevails! Thanks to our Attorney: Satish Murthi & our mentor Mathrubhumi @mathrubhuminewstv for their unstinted support. Thanks to our Musician fraternity, fans, and Media who extended their wholehearted support to fight for the rights.”

Kantara has been trending online ever since it’s release and is a huge hit.
