MUMBAI: Actor Charan Lakkaraju, who plays a significant role in Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting, opens up about the emotions, music, and behind-the-scenes moments that defined his experience on the show. The Telugu web series premiered on June 27th on ZEE5 and has been appreciated for its realistic portrayal of small-town crime, layered characters, and emotionally grounded storytelling.
“If I had to pick one song that sums up the emotional undertone of Viraatapalem, it would be ‘Jeevithame Oka Aata’ from Kondaveeti Donga,” shares Charan. “The lyrics, the mood, the sentiment—it mirrors the journey of the characters in the show beautifully. It speaks about life as a game of fate, where nothing is predictable and everyone’s playing a part, knowingly or unknowingly. That’s exactly what Viraatapalem explores—how people are shaped by circumstances and the invisible forces that surround them.”
Talking about the atmosphere on set, Charan recalls, “There were plenty of light-hearted moments, especially before and after takes. Abhignya and I would often improvise for fun—doing exaggerated, dramatic versions of our lines just to entertain the crew. It created a very warm and playful atmosphere in between the serious scenes we were filming. But interestingly, we didn’t have too many bloopers during the actual takes. That’s largely because we were working with a senior, highly experienced crew, and the environment on set was very focused once the camera started rolling.”
He adds, “There was mutual respect, discipline, and a collective commitment to getting it right—which made the entire experience both enjoyable and creatively fulfilling.”
