MUMBAI: When a video of Naga Chaitanya dressed like a groom went viral on social media on Tuesday, it caused quite chaos. For some time, fans of the actor thought he had already tied the knot and had just got engaged to Sobhita Dhulipala.
However, the actor's launch of a wedding collection for a clothes brand was the talk of the town. During the ceremony, Chaitanya admitted to the media, “Perhaps you could think so, that it’s a countdown kinda for my marriage,” yet, he didn't disclose the precise wedding date or location.
When questioned if he was practicing for his upcoming wedding by dressing like a groom, Naga Chaitanya jokingly suggested that it might be. Questions regarding his preferences for the wedding size were additionally made. In response, he stated, “Marriage is about the people who mean a lot to me. It doesn’t have to be a big fat wedding but people keeping up with the cultures and traditions in mind, so that’s how I want it (marriage) to be.”
Regarding the wedding's location and date, Chaitanya revealed that those details haven't been decided upon yet. On August 8, the actor and Sobhita Dhulipala got engaged in a private ceremony at Chaitanya's house.
The couple revealed their relationship to the world and posted a poetic statement, quoting, “What could my mother be to yours? What kin is my father to yours anyway? And how did you and I meet ever? But in love our hearts are as red earth and pouring rain: mingled beyond parting.” Their love is so effectively captured in this stanza from Kurunthogai, translated by A.K. Ramanujan.
Nagarjuna Akkineni, the father of Naga Chaitanya, also used social media to formally welcome Sobhita into the family. Nagarjuna previously disclosed in the popular news portal interview that the couple selected the engagement date due to its auspiciousness. “Both families consulted the Nakshatras, and when we were told August 8 was a very auspicious day, we decided to go ahead with it,” he said.
Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya were previously married. The couple got married in 2017 and divorced amicably in 2021.
