MUMBAI: Any time, we get confused about how a movie has performed and whether we will like it or not, we turn to reviews. A long time ago, there were professional critics who did this job of giving us unbiased reviews but things have changed in these years and we now see a lot of content creators giving their reviews for movies and OTT series/movies.

While it looks okay that these are simply content creators who are catering their views to their audience, the big changes majorly and some producers from the South Indian movies industry are not at all happy about it. However, it’s not all the reviewers that they have a problem with.
Producers’ council issued a letter condemning the practice of filming and sharing fan reviews from theatres. According to the council, the reviews were tagged as ‘Tasteless and hostile’ which impacted the movie negatively.
The letter from the council also raised concerns about personal attacks on filmmakers and actors.
“Critics have every right to review movies. But we request all journalists to write film reviews keeping in mind that hatred towards a film should not be sown in the media because of personal malice,” the letter reads.
It was asked for reviewers to focus on the movie’s content instead of personally attacking the people who are involved in the making of the movie.
In response, the producers’ council is urging the industry to take action. They want the trend of filming “FDFS public reviews” (First Day, First Show) and posting them online to stop. They believe these reviews create bias, affecting a film’s success before audiences can form their own opinions.
